Stratford-on-Avon District Council is a step closer to restoring full time monitoring of the CCTV system again following the District Council's Cabinet decision (Cabinet report) on Monday 16 January.

The District Council's Cabinet has agreed to maintain a 'localised service' with local partners contributing to the running costs.

Councillor Mike Brain, Technical Services Portfolio says: “The District Council can no longer afford to monitor, maintain and run the District's CCTV operation 24/7, although we have still been recording full time with monitoring at crucial times.  District Council Officers and I have been working with a number of partners and interested parties to find a suitable solution.

“Residents, business and visitors alike all benefit from the CCTV cameras, they are a valuable community safety resource that provides peace of mind and reassurance and it is only right that partners contribute to this service.  We are almost there and need to find an additional £20,000 in order to restore the full time monitoring.  CCTV provides useful evidence to enforcement agencies and is an integral part of our public safety provision."

Contributing partners include:
Stratford Town Council
Bidford Parish Council
Alcester Town Council and
Studley Parish Council

Stratford-on-Avon District Council's highly acclaimed CCTV system covers major towns and villages (Stratford, Shipston, Alcester, Southam, Bidford, Wellesbourne and Studley) across the District and has received national recognition, by achieving the British Standard.  There are currently 87 CCTV cameras across the District. Following the budget consultation exercise last year the service provision was reduced but is still being recorded 24-hours and monitored at key times.
