Stratford-on-Avon District Council's Cabinet has today, Monday 16 January agreed a budget proposal to go to Overview & Scrutiny before Full Council in February with a 1% reduction in Council Tax.

Councillor Chris Saint, Leader of Stratford-on-Avon District Council says: “I am very pleased to recommend this budget to Full Council in February which includes a 1% reduction in Council Tax, which I'm sure will be pleasing for residents.

These are still difficult times for local authorities but we are still on course to achieve our budget savings, becoming leaner and more focused.  This proposed budget seeks significantly fewer savings than last year.  The District Council recognises that families are going through difficult financial times and with the benefit of the Government subsidy the District Council feels that it can lighten the load by reducing Council Tax.

However, as a consequence of this proposal this budget does presuppose income charging from 3 public conveniences in Stratford town whilst most importantly keeping all the other public toilets in the District open, removing the threat of closure, a much better option for our District residents."

Last year the District Council froze Council Tax for the District, which made Stratford-on-Avon District Council's Council Tax element the lowest in Warwickshire and achieving a national ranking of  25th lowest of all district councils in England.
