Stratford-on-Avon District Council together with Senior Citizen's Action Project (SCAN) are hosting a Dementia Care conference on Wednesday 21 March at Stratford Racecourse.

The conference entitled 'Exploring the Possibilities' is a free informal conference with workshops for family carers, people with dementia, volunteers and professionals working in care settings.

Dr Graham Stokes, Director of Dementia Care Services, Bupa Care Services and author of specialist books on dementia is the guest speaker at the event.

The finale to the conference will be a selection of poetry readings presented by a group of drama students from Stratford-upon-Avon College working alongside local actor and writer, Robin Stubbs.  The readings will be based on the work of John Killick, a poet and writer in residence, who has worked with people with dementia to create several anthologies of poetry. The students will also include some of their own work within the production.

Cllr Valerie Hobbs, Enterprise, Housing & Revenues Portfolio says: “Dementia can affect the whole life of the person who has the condition, as well as having an impact on their family and friends.  This free conference has been designed to provide information and support to all those that are affected by dementia, whether they've been diagnosed, are caring for someone with dementia or working in care or related settings."

The conference starts at 9.30am and finishes at 3.30pm.  Places are limited and must be booked in advance.  Refreshments will be provided throughout the day and parking is available on site. For further information or to book a place please contact Jan Roberts, Policy Officer at Stratford-on-Avon District Council on 01789 260108.
