2012 is a year packed full with iconic events including The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, The Queen's Diamond Jubilee, The Torch Relay and the finale of the Cultural Olympiad.  England's tourism industry is being offered the opportunity of a lifetime to showcase the quality and vibrancy of our visitor experiences and the value our industry brings to our nation.

Tourism touches everyone – visitors, residents and employees with the internationally renowned Stratford-upon-Avon and its association with Shakespeare attracting 4.9 million visitors a year to the District, making the tourism industry worth an estimated £335 million annually and supporting over 7,000 jobs.

English Tourism Week celebrates the benefits the tourism industry brings to everyone, everywhere, every day in England and where better to celebrate and showcase this than the heart of the tourism industry in Stratford-on-Avon District.  The Week is designed to raise the profile and importance of tourism, its diversity, accessibility and value and to provide a 'kick start' to the 2012 tourism season.

Stratford-on-Avon District Council is on the look out for local tourism businesses who are taking part in the first English Tourism Week (ETW) which takes place from 10 to 18 March 2012.  The District Council wants to know what is happening locally and will help promote events on the District Council's Discover Stratford website www.discover-stratford.com.  If you run a tourism business, why not get involved by holding a special event, or offering a special discount to tempt visitors?  There are lots of ideas on the VisitEngland website www.visitengland.com

To get your event promoted on the District Council's 'Discover Stratford' website  www.discover-stratford.com contact John Tonge on 01789 260103 or email john.tonge@stratford-dc.gov.uk.

Cllr Valerie Hobbs, Enterprise, Housing and Revenues Portfolio Holder says: “We have some truly wonderful visitor attractions in Stratford-on-Avon District and I would like to encourage as many local businesses to take part in the first English Tourism Week - this is a chance to showcase your business.  Also if you are a local resident, or are visiting, make sure you support the local tourism businesses by visiting  one of our many  fantastic attractions, or having a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants or cafes and experience why the District is such a superb place to visit."
