Stratford-upon-Avon has been chosen by Comic Relief to host one of the Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile events on Sunday 25 March.

The Mile events, organised by Stratford-on-Avon District Council, are open to people of all ages and abilities to take part in a challenge and help raise money for Sport Relief. To make the Mile as open and accessible as possible, you can participate however you like, for example as a fun run or walking as a family group.

Sport Relief harnesses the power and passion of sport to change lives for the better. By doing sport, having fun and raising money, everyone can do good and feel good. Comic Relief spends the money raised to help vulnerable people living incredibly tough lives both at home in the UK and in the world's poorest countries.

Runners can choose to do 1, 3 or 6 miles on a circular route round the Stratford-upon-Avon Recreation Ground.  Races start at 10.30am for 3 & 6 miles and 11.00 & 11.15am for 1 mile participants.

Although the official event for online entries has now closed, participants can still turn up on the day with their entry fee to register and be part of the event. The fun starts from 10.00am on the Rec Ground where you can enjoy the atmosphere, cheer on the participants and limber up at the mass warm up sessions.

Cllr Mike Brain, Technical Services Portfolio says: 'This is a run and not a race, so the aim is to get as many people as possible, young and old and those not normally given to sport to take part and raise some money for charity in the process."

How to Enter
On the day entries; please arrive at the Recreation Ground from 9.45am.  Whether you do 1, 3 or 6 miles – as a family team, with your mates or against the clock – you'll have a fantastic time when you go the distance. Entry is £6 for adults, £3 for children and £15 for a family of four.

Volunteer at the Event
If you do not wish to complete the Mile but still want to do your bit for Sport Relief, why not volunteer to be part of the event organisation on the day. For further information please contact Helen Slatter, Senior Sports Development Officer at the District Council on 01789 260606.

Remember British summer time begins - the clocks will go forward by one hour on Sunday 25 March as British Summer Time begins for another year. The official time changes at 1.00am, moving forward to 2.00am across the UK.  So don't forget to change your clocks and set your alarm before you go to bed!
