In March Stratford-on-Avon District Council launched a new local democracy twitter account in preparation for the 2012 local elections.

To get the latest updates on the local District Elections in Stratford-on-Avon District and the results as they happen on elections night, Thursday 3 May, Council officials are advising people to follow www.twitter.com/@SDCelects.

Darren Whitney, Stratford District Council's Democratic Services Manager says: “This election we are trying to make sure anyone who wants to know the results of our elections can find out as the wards are being declared.  This is why we have launched our twitter feed and will have the results going on up in real time.

We hope this service will be useful – not just for the local media but also for the general public who want to see democracy in action.  This will be one of the best ways to experience the drama of a count from where ever you are and to be one of the first to find out the final result in the early hours of Friday morning."

Results for Parish Councils being contested will be announced as they happen on Friday 4 May.
