Stratford-on-Avon District Council in partnership with Stratford Sports Club is hosting the third annual Stratford-upon-Avon Community Games.

The Community Games will be taking place on Friday 27th July at the Bandstand by the River Avon and will start with an opening address at 12noon followed by music, entertainment and traditional Sports Day Games and competitions.

The Community Games programme is inspired by the unique Olympic heritage of the West Midlands, the Wenlock Olympian Games.  These have been held annually in Shropshire since 1850 and were the inspiration behind the modern Olympic movement. The Games aim to bring the inspiration of London 2012 to the community through sport and culture.

The Community Games are supported by the Legacy Trust UK and part of the West Midlands Culture Programme for London 2012.

Activities and entertainment will include a free climbing wall for everyone take part on, Circus Skills workshops and a traditional puppet show for the younger audience along with a Garden Games zone including Giant Jenga, Connect-Four and Snakes & Ladders. There will also be traditional sports day competitions including egg & spoon, 3-legged and sack races culminating in a tug of war.

In the 'Sport Zone' the Stratford Sports Club will open its doors to visitors for the afternoon and there will be sports demonstrations and 'Have a Go' sessions with Alveston Badminton Club, Stratford-upon-Avon Cricket, Hockey, Squash and Tennis Clubs along with a 'Penalty Shoot Out' and 'keepy-upy' competitions.

Community Games is a free event and offers something for everyone - come along and join in.

The close of the Games at 5pm will be marked by a mass balloon launch to celebrate the Olympic Games.
