Two restaurants in Stratford-upon-Avon feature in a new guide, 'Our Ten Most Accessible Restaurants in Coventry and Warwickshire' which was published last week.

Connect Culture, a disabled user led community group based in Coventry, announced the ten best accessible restaurants in Coventry and Warwickshire at an event in July attended by Stratford-on-Avon District Council's Cllr Sir William Lawrence, Chairman of Tourism for All.

Working on accessibility and inclusiveness specifically, Connect Culture received funding from the Big Lottery for this project Assess 4 Access. The project researched and published a Top Ten guide to accessible restaurants in the local area.  Disabled professional auditors and a group of pan- impairment volunteers carried out the actual assessment. They assessed not only the physical environment but also the attitudes of waiters and management.

Cox's Yard, Bridgefoot and Grants, Sheep Street are both listed in the new guide.  The other restaurants are in Coventry, Kenilworth, Leamington Spa, Nuneaton, Rugby and Warwick. The guide features a customer review and information about getting there, parking, access and toilet facilities.

The guides are available free of charge from the District Council offices in Church Street, the Visitor Information Centre at Bridgefoot and the Stratford Library.

Connect culture is about building an inclusive world, bringing people and cultures together – in this case, specifically but not exclusively the disabled and non disabled people. We all have multiple identities and increasingly we are cosmopolitan beings, we enjoy and share different and separate cultures. Connect culture seeks to build bridges, make accessible places and information to people who needs it – which is affordable.
