Local community groups, schools, colleges, individuals and businesses in Stratford-upon-Avon are set to benefit from a new Public Art Grant Fund.

The grants are available for the provision of public art in the area of the Regal Road Industrial Estate development on the Birmingham Road, Stratford-upon-Avon and have been made available through developer's contributions (Section 106) as part of this development.

The total amount of grant funding available is £41,319.55, and applicants may apply for any amount up to this value – the Council welcomes grant applications for art projects both small and large.  The deadline for receipt of applications is Friday 1 February 2013, although the whole budget may be allocated well before the deadline so applicants are strongly advised to submit their grant applications as quickly as possible.

Cllr Maurice Howse, Enterprise, Housing & Revenues Portfolio says: “I would encourage local groups to apply for this fund Public Art Fund.  Local people are passionate about where they live and it is only right that they should have the opportunity to decide what public art they would like to see in their neighbourhood.  I look forward to seeing some creative and innovative schemes come to fruition."

  • The grants scheme has been made possible through Section 106 funding from the Regal Road Industrial Estate development on Birmingham Road, Stratford-upon-Avon.

  • A Section 106 Agreement is a legal agreement between the Planning Authority and the applicant/developer and any others that may have an interest in the land.  Section 106 agreements are designed to help make sure new developments enhance local communities, and to reduce the impact of developments on local areas. They help to create better quality environments.

  • The public art funds are made available for community groups, schools, colleges, individuals, businesses to bid for on the basis that they will provide public art within the terms of the legal agreement. The agreement restricts the location for the art so that it is within the vicinity of the development.
