Parish and Town Councils in Stratford-on-Avon District still have time to nominate a local outdoor space to be permanently recognised and protected as a tribute to the Diamond Jubilee.

The Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge is a new campaign to mark the Her Majesty the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. It is a landmark project to protect playing fields in communities all across the country as a permanent living legacy, being led by HRH Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge.

Cllr Lynda Organ, Technical Services Portfolio says: “Green spaces and playing fields are the heart of any community and the Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge provide the opportunity to ensure these outdoor spaces are guaranteed for future generations.  The number and range of green open spaces in Stratford District is a real asset and outdoor recreational spaces are vital to creating happy and healthy communities. The District Council would like to encourage our local Town and Parish Councils to nominate suitable areas."

This was considered by The District Council's Cabinet on Monday 10 September following a Notice of Motion by Cllrs Juned and Cheney to the Council in July.  The Notice of Motion was to encourage landowners to protect outdoor recreational facilities within the District and to identify sites within the Council's ownership for nomination.

Fields in Trust is the only independent UK wide charity dedicated to protecting and improving outdoor space for sport, play and recreation. www.fieldsintrust.org
