Stratford-on-Avon District Councillors have set the district element of the council tax in the Stratford-on-Avon District, at a full meeting of the Council on Monday 25 February.

The average Band D figure for Stratford-on-Avon District Council households for the 2013/14 financial year remains the same at £128.05, the lowest in Warwickshire.

This means that all the services provided by the District Council are only costing £2.46 per week for a Band D household.

The council tax from Stratford-on-Avon District Council for residents for each of the valuation bands is:

A        £85.37

B        £99.59

C        £113.82

D        £128.05

E        £156.51

F        £184.96

G        £213.42

H        £256.10

Cllr Chris Saint, Leader of the Council says: “This will be very good news for residents as we know these are tough times for them.  As a District Council we are very conscious of the need to keep down costs for our residents, so our share of the Council Tax remains the same as last year.

Like most other Councils, by careful planning and some budget under spends, we have a situation this year, that is not as bleak as it sounds or as tight as we may have predicted, despite absorbing a huge drop in Government Support of 31.6% over three years.  These reductions have been partially offset by the Council Tax freeze grants for the third year running and New Home Bonus.

We have a our strong track record of delivering savings year on year whilst maintaining key services and providing value for money and this continues as we have negotiated a new deal on Waste Services and Street Cleaning worth savings of £400,000 a year; we have added strength to the planning policy and development control teams due partly to the increase in fees for planning applications; we have provided extra support for the CAB service and a new grounds maintenance contract in April will provide better grass cutting services at reduced cost and these changes are all sustainable."
