Update: The public inquiry for the mixed use development by Ainscough Strategic Land has been adjourned today, Tuesday 1 October, until a future date, following  the need for a screening direction from the Secretary of State to see if an Environmental Impact Assessment  is required for the proposed development.

A public inquiry starts next week on Tuesday 1 October 2013, following an appeal by AinscoughStrategicLand for the development of a supermarket, petrol station, retirement development and housing at land north of Campden Road, Shipston-on-Stour.

The appeal relates to the planning application for the development of a supermarket; petrol station; customer car parking; 'Extra Care' Retirement Home, comprising up to 80 cottages and 50 apartments; up to 54 houses with 35% affordable housing; community building; associated access arrangements; open space; allotments and landscaping.

Stratford-on-Avon District Council refused the application on the 28 January 2013 and is defending the appeal on the following grounds:

  • Impact of retail store on the viability and vitality of Shipston Town Centre

  • Impact on the landscape.

The inquiry, expected to last for 8 days, will be held at the Council Offices, Elizabeth House, Church Street, Stratford-upon-Avon starting at 10am.  A Government Planning Inspector will preside over the inquiry.

Members of the public may attend the inquiry and express their view – at the discretion of the inspector.
