Residents in Stratford-on-Avon District are some of the best recyclers in England, according to the latest provisional Government figures.

Stratford-on-Avon District Council has made it back in the top 10 recycling, composting and reuse league table for England in 2012/13.

Last year the District Council recorded a combined total of 57.3% and is now expected to jump 11 places with a total of 60.33%, an increase of 3.03% in the amount collected. This puts Stratford District 9th out of a total of 352 councils.

Cllr Lynda Organ, Technical Services Portfolio says: “This is great news and it's thanks to our residents that we've been able to achieve this terrific result with their commitment and support for recycling. Our service is designed to make it as easy as possible, but without the hard work of everybody at home, we couldn't have achieved this result.

It is important that residents continue to recycle, reducing the amount of waste being sent to landfill and now they can see that their efforts and diligence has paid off.  The introduction of the enhanced recycling service with the collection of small waste electronic and electrical items, textiles and household batteries could certainly help towards maintaining our league table position next year."
