Warwickshire Waste Partnership has launched its most ambitious Christmas recycling and waste minimisation campaign to date.

The multi-media campaign will span the web, twitter, facebook, posters and radio – reinforced by press and PR.

The festive countdown will be in the form of “24 tweets to Christmas" while a quirky online festive A – Z features recycling and re-use tips such as a recipe for Brussels sprout curry plus a link to the 'NORAD Tracks Santa' website.

Residents will also be reminded to check the revised collection arrangements over the Christmas and New Year period to ensure they don't miss a collection.

Meanwhile DHL Envirosolutions – Warwickshire's waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) producer compliance scheme partner – will be running radio advertisements encouraging householders with worn-out electrical items to 'don't bin it – bring it!' to their local recycling centre.

Cllr Jeff Clarke, Chair of the Partnership, said: “Christmas is a high point for consumption and we want residents to keep up their efforts to reuse and recycle throughout the festive season. Last year Warwickshire paid more than £670,000 in Landfill Tax alone for unsorted waste which went to landfill in December and January.  If we can encourage and enable households to sort and separate as much recyclable material as possible, we'll save more than £4 million a year."
