From next week Stratford Leisure and Visitor Centre users will be able to see the plans for the £5million leisure centre refurbishment project.

Plans of the proposed concept design will be on display in Leisure Centre where customers will be able to give their feedback.  As well as the plans being on display all the week, officers and members of the design team will be on hand to answer any questions at the following times:

Monday 16 December          -        10am to 2pm

Tuesday 17 December         -        12pm to 4pm

Wednesday 18 December     -        4pm to 7pm

Thursday 19 December        -        10am to 2pm

Councillor Lynda Organ, Technical Services Portfolio says:  “This is an exciting project and The Cabinet has tasked the design team to produce the best value for the budget available and the results are very pleasing to see.  Although this is a busy time of year, I do hope people will take the time to come and have a look at the plans and give us their feedback."

The proposed concept design includes:

  • Improvements to the Pool Areas and Pool Hall – these will be fully refurbished including re-tiling and re-lighting with improvements to be made to the plant and equipment servicing the pools. The glazing that forms three sides of the pool hall will be replaced and re-modelled to improve the internal environment.

  • Relocations of Health Suite – The Sauna and Steam Room facilities will be improved and relocated within the pool hall to provide direct access off poolside.

  • Modernising of the Changing Areas – these will be re-modelled to include a 'changing village', group changing areas, dry-side changing. Facilities suitable for disabled customers will also be included with a full 'Changing Places' facility to meet the requirements of the Equality Act 2010.

  • Refurbishment of Sports Hall – this will be improved through re-decoration, restoring the floor and improving the lighting.

  • The addition of a Climbing Facility - a facility will be introduced into the foyer area of the building in or around the area currently occupied by the redundant turret.

  • Increase in Studio Space - additional space will be introduced to allow increases in the number of exercise classes available at the centre. The current spinning studio will also be re-sited and significantly improved.

  • Improvement of Reception and Catering Facilities - the current centre has a dual function; it accommodates both leisure centre users and a significant number of coach travellers which results in conflicts of space within the existing building. The proposed design seeks to address this by enlarging and reconfiguring the reception and catering areas to better accommodate visitors, to improve the flow of people within the building, to improve the welcome for visitors to Stratford-upon-Avon and by making the building more inviting to leisure centre customers.

  • Environmental and Sustainability Improvements – the upgrading of the building will seek to reduce energy use within the leisure centre through improved insulation of the building fabric with improvements in the efficiency of the services used and appropriate deployment of renewable technologies.

  • General Building Improvements - within the limitations of the existing building, the facility will be upgraded to provide a refurbished leisure centre with a more modern look and feel.
