Next Tuesday 4 February, the Chairman of Stratford-on-Avon District Council, Cllr Chris Mills will be handing over £1,712.20 worth of unused travel tokens to Age UK at Briar Croft, Stratford-upon-Avon.

Although the District Council stopped issuing travel tokens a number of years ago when the free bus pass was introduced, they continue to benefit those in the District thanks to the kind generosity of District residents who return them.

Travel tokens were issued but sometimes not always used and are often discovered when residents move house or pass away.  These are then kindly passed back to the District Council who always ensures they are all redirected to a worthwhile beneficiary, in this case Age UK.

The money will be used to develop the new befriending service that Age UK Warwickshire supported by the Stratford Town Trust will be launching in March 2014. The service will operate in Stratford-upon-Avon and provide company (through a volunteer befriender) for socially isolated people who meet the criteria for the service.
