Following Stratford-on-Avon District Council's Cabinet meeting held on Monday 13 January, and pending the outcome of a consultation exercise, the submission draft Core Strategy (which will shape future development in the District) will be provisionally adjusted.
For the time-being, planning decisions will be based on an assessed housing need of 10,800 over the Plan Period (2011-2031), which averages 540 new homes a year. This figure will be used to inform our strategic planning and as the base for any statistical analysis, e.g. calculation of the 5 year land supply.
The District Council's evidence base shows that 1,700 of these houses are required to cater for organic growth in the existing local population. The remaining 9,100 are required to make appropriate provision for the inward migration of households into the District. This is considered sufficient to cater for both economically active families and those in retirement.
The dispersal of this new housing will take into account sites already having planning permission or accepted as proposed allocations in the emerging Core Strategy, and will make an allowance for ongoing small scale development on unidentified sites.
Development is likely to be distributed on the following basis:

Cllr Chris Saint, Leader of Stratford-on-Avon District Council says: “I am publishing these figures to clarify the position regarding the housing requirement in our emerging Core Strategy. Given the evidence based projection of 10,800 new homes for the period 2011-31, the Council's imminent consultation will inform the decision to select ONE of the four strategic growth locations announced last week (namely Lighthorne Heath, Long Marston airfield, Southam with Stoneythorpe or South East Stratford) for inclusion in the Core Strategy."
A consultation on the latest proposals will take place from the end of January for 6 weeks.
