On Sunday 9 March local rivals Stratford District Council and Warwick District Council took part in a charity football match at Myton School in Warwick.

Sadly, Stratford District Council lost the match 3-4 in a close fought match.

The Chairman of Stratford District Council, Councillor Chris Mills and Chairman of Warwick District Council, Councillor Richard Davies presented Warwick District Council with the trophy after the match.  All the proceeds raised from player donations will be shared between both the Chairmans' charities – with Stratford District Council contributing £45.

Match Report by Richard Pearson:

On a beautiful and balmy Sunday afternoon, Stratford District Council F.C travelled the short distance to play Warwick District Council in the 'A46 Derby'.

Having never won the Chairman's Shield on three previous meetings, Stratford District Council were determined to change this record and bring the silverware back to Elizabeth House.

The first half was a close knit affair with both teams playing some good football and although Warwick District Council took the lead, Eddie Wrench soon equalised with an acute chip over the keeper. Warwick District Council had a couple of chances to regain the lead - with two goal line clearances required, but Stratford District Council managed to stifle the attacks and the game went into half time at 1-1.

The game opened up early in the second half and with Warwick District Council pressing forward Stratford District Council broke away and Wrench placed a great ball into the six yard box which was converted for an own goal by a Warwick District Council defender.

With their confidence growing it was another break away which resulted in Wrench's second goal, a precise shot into the bottom left of the goal to make it 3-1.

With tiring legs and the sun in their faces, the last ten minutes resulted in intense pressure on the Stratford goal, and the pressure paid off as Warwick District Council scored three quick and quality goals to win the match and subject Stratford District Council to a heartbreaking defeat.

Matt Heron (Stratford District Council) was very deserving of the man of the match award; however a huge amount of praise should be given to all the team for their hard work and determination who did not deserve to end up on the losing side.
