Stratford District Primary School Competitions 2014

The past couple of months have been busy on the local sporting calendar with Stratford-on-Avon District Council hosting District-wide Primary School competitions in Football and Swimming.

In the Annual Primary Football Competitions 38 Primary Schools with almost 500 young children took part with 7 winners and runners-up in both the girls and boys competitions progressing through to the Grand Finals.

At the Grand Finals a close fought boys competition saw ThomasJolyffePrimary School come out on top by only two points to Long Ithington Primary with 3^rd place going to Bidford-on-Avon Primary.

Alveston Primary School were clear winners in the girls competition scoring an impressive 15 goals to take them to the title. St Mary's CatholicSchool, Studley finished runners-up and Bidford-on-Avon again 3^rd.

A big thank you must go to the young volunteer leaders from Stratford-upon-Avon School, Shipston High School and St Benedict's Catholic School for their assistance in refereeing the finals matches.

Over 400 children took part in the Annual Area Swimming Competitions held at Stratford, Southam, Studley and Shipston Leisure Centres with 195 children progressing through to compete at the Grand Finals held in Stratford.

At the Grand Finals the four areas competed against each other as teams with the Stratford area being split into two, the Seals and the Dolphins. After a close fought battle from a strong Shipston side Stratford Dolphins came out on top with only 3 points separating the top three teams - Stratford Dolphins 200, Shipston 198 and Stratford Seals 197.

Notable performances on the evening came from a number of talented young swimmers in particular Tom Beamer of Stratford Primary School who claimed two championship records whilst Ella Vickers of Bridgetown Primary, Joel Watson of Stratford Primary and Daniel Cox of Ettington Primary all of whom set one Championship Record each. New relay records also went to the teams of Stratford Dolphins and Shipston.
