The swimming pools at Stratford Leisure & Visitor Centre will remain open this summer as work on the £5million refurbishment project will not start until the autumn.

When the pools do close later this year, Stratford-on-Avon District Council together with Everyone Active are keen to ensure that swimming facilities are still provided and are working with Total Swimming and Olympic swimming medallist Steve Parry to provide a Temporary Pool whilst the work is carried out at the leisure centre, which will involve the construction of a temporary pool facility.

The temporary pool will be 18m long, 6m wide and 1.1m deep and will be situated just outside the main building. The pool area and water will be heated to the same temperature that swimmers are used to, to ensure a pleasurable swimming experience.

Stratford-on-Avon District Council's refurbishment project to upgrade the building and facilities of Stratford Leisure & Visitor Centre will take place in two phases and the centre will remain open as the works take place.

The existing facilities at the centre are now 40 years old having served the local community since 1974, well beyond its expected design life of 30 years, and are in need of modernising.

The new design and layout has been developed in consultation with the leisure centre operator, Everyone Active, customers and District residents
