Stratford-on-Avon District Council was overwhelmed last Friday, 12 September with donations for the Manchester Dogs Home that was destroyed by fire.

Big-hearted local people donated blankets, dog food, dog cages, treats and toys and so much was given that it couldn't fit in the District Council's Dog Warden van that another larger van from Enterprise had to be hired to transport all the donations to Cheshire.

Lisa Parkes, Stratford District Council Dog Warden says: “This is an incredibly sad and tragic incident that has struck a chord with so many people. Local people and businesses have been so kind and generous with their donations.  We received so much gear, I couldn't fit it all in my van. We ended up hiring a larger van from Enterprise, who were so helpful at such short notice and even waived the hire charge.

“This tragedy has really hit home, bringing the local community together. I couldn't have done it without the invaluable help of our local DogLost Coordinator, Trisha Shaw, and local District Councillor Eric Holder. The support we've had has been staggering, with donations coming from all walks of life from pensioners to local businesses and from those who have recently lost their own beloved pet. A truly inspiring experience that has highlighted the plight of abandoned dogs in all rescue centres across the country."

The donations were delivered on Friday evening to Cheshire Dogs Home and were gratefully received.
