From 1 August, some refuse and recycling collection rounds are changing and Stratford-on-Avon District Council is now writing to all those properties affected by the changes.

Areas that are affected by the changes will receive a letter together with an updated refuse and recycling calendar and notification of their next four collections.

Cllr Mike Brain, Technical Services Portfolio says: “Not everyone is affected but those properties that are will receive a letter from the District Council.  This could be a change to their collection day and/or a change to the week the refuse or recycling is collected.

“Although people don't like change, especially in relation to their refuse and recycling service, the revised collection days will help to improve efficiency and keep providing the best value service for Stratford District residents.  The collection rounds have not changed since the introduction of the wheelie bin service in 2008 and since then new homes have been built in the District and these additional areas have just been absorbed into the collection rounds.  But the time has now come to look at making changes and improve efficiency.

“There will obviously be a bedding in period with the changes and we hope residents will bear with us during this transition time, but hope that any disruption will be kept to a minimum.  All the information residents will need on the changes will be sent out direct to them as well as being available on the District Council's website."

Even if the day has not changed the time of the collection may have, so the District Council is advising residents to ensure that bins are on the boundary at 6am ready for collection.

An updated refuse and recycling calendar is currently being distributed with the District Council's magazine, Stratford View, being delivered to residents this week.

Also as part of the changes the vehicle fleet is being replaced after 7 years, when the new wheeled bin service was first introduced in 2008.  Since the introduction of the wheeled bin service the 19 vehicle fleet have clocked up around 3,040,00km* (just under 1,900,000 miles) between them travelling across the District.  The new fleet will be more efficient and also includes a number of additional features on board such as cameras and 'real-time' collection information.

  • In total about 35% of properties (14,280) will have a change to their collection including:
    • Approximately 2,210 properties will have a week change
    • Approximately 6,436 properties will have a day change
    • Approximately 4,142 properties will have a day and a week change
    • Changes to narrow access properties

  • For those properties that are experiencing changes that are resulting in longer between collections, additional collections have been put in place on Saturday 1 August – 3 extra refuse rounds, 6 extra recycling rounds, 5 extra green waste rounds and 3 narrow access rounds.

  • Working with Biffa, 55,000 properties receive a refuse or recycling collection each week across the District.

  • *Mileage – on average each truck has travelled 160,000km (just under 100,000 miles).  A total of 19 trucks = 3,040,000km (just under 1,900,000 miles).
