Stratford-on-Avon District Council's new play project at Orrian Close in Stratford-upon-Avon is now complete and will be officially opened by the Chairman, Cllr Mike Gittus next week.

The play space has been developed in 3 distinct phases over the last 18 months with the District Council investing over £200,000 of S106 monies to create the new play spaces for the north of the town.

Cllr Mike Brain, Technical Services Portfolio says, “This project has been developed and shaped through consultation with local residents and groups.  It has been designed to improve their health and wellbeing and encourage them to enjoy the outdoors and become more physically active."

  • Phase 1 - November 2013 - removal of the old play equipment and construction of the measured mile figure of eight footpath.
  • Phase 2 – March 2014 – installation of the new outdoor gym equipment.
  • Phase 3 – January / February 2015 – new play equipment for children and young people built including a zip wire and viper rope swing, multi play unit and trim trail with castle.

Diggley Associates carried out the 2012 independent playground audit on behalf of the District Council.

The section 106 monies (developers' contributions) has come from Bishopton, Clopton Road, Regal Road, Limes Avenue, Glebe Road and Mount Crescent developments and is for the provision of public open space and community facilities.

Other parks to benefit from improvement works include:

  • Cottage Lane in Shottery – basket swing, trim trail and boulders (£10,000).
  • Trevelyan Crescent – a 30m zip wire, basket swing and boulders (£12,000).
  • The Stratford Skate Park – a new precast concrete pyramid, infill half pipe and flat bank (£11,500).
