Stratford-upon-Avon celebrates arrival of Webb Ellis Cup as part of Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour

Stratford-upon-Avon will celebrate the arrival of Rugby's greatest prize, the Webb Ellis Cup, on Monday 17th August 2015 as part of the Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour.

The Trophy, which is in Warwickshire for two days as part of the Trophy Tour, will visit the Royal Shakespeare Theatre to take part in Shakespeare's RWC Spectacular.

As part of the Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour, South Warwickshire Rugby Football Union in conjunction with Stratford District Council and the Royal Shakespeare Company will welcome the Webb Ellis Cup with Shakespeare's Rugby Spectacular. The Trophy will be greeted onto the Bancroft Terrace by Royal Shakespeare Company actor Alex Hassell who'll make a speech from Henry V and be accompanied by musicians from the Royal Shakespeare Company, the trophy will be on display between 12pm to 2.30pm.

During the day, there will be a variety of Rugby activities and demonstrations including:

-          Skills and touch/tag demonstrations on the Bancroft Gardens from 11am, including “Have A Go" sessions;

-           Kicking and Passing Competitions between 11am to 2.30pm;

-          "Rock-up & Play" sessions and Competitive Mum's & Dad's Touch Rugby from 2.00pm to 4pm on the Recreation Ground

The day will close with the South Warwickshire Summer Touch Rugby Finals from 6pm on the Recreation Ground with a live rock band in the bandstand. Clubs, schools, colleges will all be invited to participate and promote their organisations and Rugby activities. The Trophy Tour, which launched on June 10 marking exactly 100 days-to-go to the opening match, will now travel to East Midlands to take part in a number of events and activities to help give fans the unique opportunity to build unforgettable memories as part of their own Rugby World Cup 2015 story. rugbyworldcup.com/trophy-tour/events

Rugby is at the heart of the Trophy Tour, visiting more than 100 rugby clubs, organisations and rugby festivals, from grassroots to elite level. In addition to this, Host Cities, Match Venues, community and legacy programmes, sports events, stakeholder visits, Worldwide Partner activations and iconic landmarks will feature as part of the Trophy Tour with over 300 events programmed across the 100 day continuous tour. 

The Trophy Tour is travelling through Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Wales and England before arriving at Twickenham Stadium on September 18 ahead of Opening Ceremony of Rugby World Cup 2015.
