District Dementia information all in one place

To mark National Dementia Awareness Week, from 15 to 21 May, Stratford-on-Avon District Council is promoting the range of support available locally for people living with dementia.

The District Council has produced a leaflet detailing all the dementia cafes, day care and other activity groups which are available across the District for those living with dementia.

The leaflet also gives information on support groups available for carers.

Most organisations that support people with dementia or their carers have their own leaflet but this is the first time that all the services in the District have been detailed in one place. The leaflet came about as a result of the work of the Council's Dementia Task and Finish Group who produced the Council's dementia action plan.

The leaflet has been distributed to all GP surgeries, so anyone receiving a diagnosis can pick up the leaflet and find out what local activities and support is available.

Marie Darwen, Policy Officer at Stratford-on-Avon District Council says: “Dementia can be an extremely demanding and worrying condition – for both those experiencing its symptoms and those who are caring for loved ones  with dementia.

“By helping to raise awareness of the services available, we hope we can ensure those who are living with dementia are provided with the support and advice they need to help make life a little easier, both now and in the future."

All the information in the leaflet was correct at the time of printing; but co-ordinating all the information in the leaflet has been a mammoth task with the District having a considerable number of dementia cafes and activity groups as well as support for carers.

The leaflet will be updated as and when new or updated information becomes available and will be on the District Council's website at www.stratford.gov.uk/healthcare/dementia-friendly.cfm
