Stratford-on-Avon District Council recently hosted four annual regional primary schools 6-a-side football tournaments, at Southam, Shipston-on-Stour, Studley, and Stratford-upon-Avon.
41 Primary Schools and nearly 550 young children took part in the regional tournaments, with winners and runners-up in both the girls and boys competitions progressing through to the Finals Tournament at Stratford Recreation Ground.
The Boys' Finals Tournament saw Shipston-on-Stour edge a tight final 1-0 over Thomas Jolyffe after both teams were undefeated in their group matches.
The other teams that took part were Southam, Welford-on-Avon, St Mary's (Studley), Southam St James, Wootton Wawen, and Ilmington.
The Girls' Finals Tournament comprised a round-robin format and was also a tense affair. The identity of the winning school was in doubt until the final match, with Barford St Peter's emerging triumphant. The runners-up were The Willows.
The other participating schools were Temple Grafton, Shipston-on-Stour and Southam St James.
The tournament was superbly officiated by sports leaders from Stratford-on-Avon School and there was assistance from Adam Mundy of Everyone Active. The other volunteers who helped the tournaments to be successful also did a great job.
Trophies and medals were presented to the winners and runners-up by Cllr Mike Brain, Community and Technical Services Portfolio for Stratford-on-Avon District Council.
