The Ken Kennett Community Centre in Stratford-upon-Avon is due to close in early April.
Clopton Community Forum, the volunteer group responsible for running the centre for the last 16 years, has reluctantly decided to close the Ken Kennett Centre.
The Forum has stated the main reason for the closure is due to management costs and reduced income from bookings and has agreed to hand the Community Centre back to the District Council in order to secure its long term future.
Stratford-on-Avon District Council remains committed to the community in this area and will work with county, district and town council members, local voluntary and community organisations, community leaders and locals to attract investment into the area.
It is hoped that the community can come together to support the centre and work with the District and County Councils to try to create a vibrant, accessible and sustainable future for this valuable community venue.
In the meantime the District and County Councils are working with Stratford Town Trust to ensure that the 12th June 2016 event to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday can still go ahead and involve the whole community including local schools and businesses to celebrate a very special milestone for the nation. For more information or to volunteer your help, please call Warwickshire County Council's local Community Development Worker, Ali Mainey on 07557 565783. Alternatively if you feel you could help support the Ken Kennett Community Centre, please contact Stratford District Council's Policy Officer, Carol Roberts on 01789 260112.
The Ken Kennett Centre was the inspiration of former Mayor, Cllr Ken Kennett and has provided a valuable community venue in an area where both Councils are focusing their efforts to improve education, employment and training opportunities.
The Ken Kennett Centre is owned by Stratford-on-Avon District Council.
